Welcome to Central Intermediate School

  •
Early voting for the referendum starts February 8th!

You can also vote by mail. Use this link  http://il.tazewell.accessliberty.com/VoteByMail.asp
A ballot with a self addressed stamped envelope will be mailed to you to vote and send back in.  Easy!

Why do we need this referendum?
    • Growing enrollment is currently beyond the existing capacity.
Students are being educated in modular
      classrooms.
    • Lack of space in gymnasium and common spaces create
very crowded physical education classes and extend time
that lunch is served throughout the day.
    • Thriving band and choir programs have outgrown the
      current music space.
    • Expanded facilities will allow for advancement in science,
technology, engineering, math, art and foreign language.
    • Traditional classrooms do not offer flexibility.  There are no
designated spaces for collaboration in small groups or one
      on one intervention.

Central parents have the power to change the
    educational environment for their kids.

CIS Announcements

  • February 19-23

    1. Did you know lunch at CPS runs from 10:55-1:10 with some children eating very early and some very late?  The referendum has plans for a expanded commons to allow for more children to be served at the same time during mid-day hours.
    2. Did you know that our enrollment in 2008 was 869?  We currently have 1360 students enrolled K-8 in our district.  Projections show that we are expected to continue to grow over the next five years pushing the district enrollment over 1400 students by 2020.
    3. Did you know that students today need an even higher exposure to science, technology, engineering, math?  The more modern spaces will provide greater opportunity for our kids to gain more experiences with these subjects.
    4. Did you know that Central has plans to expand foreign language and art?  The referendum will provide designated spaces for these expanded programs and allow our kids to experience these important additions to the curriculum.
    5. Did you know that both CPS and CIS lack flexible space for students to break up into small groups for collaborative learning and often end up sitting on the floor in the hallways?  The referendum has plans for creating  flexible classroom spaces that can accommodate many different learning environments.  The spaces will also have the flexibility to change with different curriculum needs or class sizes.
    6. Did you know that we currently have 180 students in the band and 156 students in the choir programs at CIS? During 5th grade band, there are 72 students with their instruments that have to fit in the band room at the same time.  There are 95 students in 5th & 6th grade choir at the same time.   The referendum has plans to expand and renovate the band and chorus rooms to accommodate our thriving program in music studies.
    7. Did you know that the CPS gymnasium is not a regulation size gym and up to 54 students take gym at the same time which limits the activities that can be done during physical education? The referendum has plans for expanding and renovating the CPS gym space to allow for more space for physical education classes as well as provide a second gym for extracurricular activities.
